Amplify Her: EduAid Africa to mentor Student Athletes

Mentorship is a powerful resource that can positively influence the growth and success of people in sports, more so student-athletes.
Building confidence in young athletes, helping them navigate present and future challenges, and setting realistic goals are key aspects of mentorship which offers numerous advantages that ultimately contribute to not only professional but personal growth.
In fact, mentoring is crucial for learning and skill development, which allows mentees to get valuable insights and expertise in sports and life after sports.
It’s upon that background that former Gazelles and KCCA Leopards’ wing Moreen Amoding is leveraging the power of sports to drive positive change among student-athletes through her organization, EduAid Africa.
“EduAid was founded to see a different generation of student-athletes. There are many things we did as student-athletes that were not right, and we are here to give the current student-athletes a holistic approach to life and teach them the right ways to transition into the real world,” Amoding narrated at a press conference held on Tuesday at Lugogo.
Momo, as she’s fondly known in basketball circles, said that their mentorship program addresses issues such as Education, Financial Literacy, Gender Equality and Health.
“These are things that affect us directly and, as student-athletes, we never got the chance to be educated about them,” she recalled. “So, we are here to mentor them [current students] to be better than we were.”
During the brief, Amoding also officially announced a campaign dubbed Amplify Her ahead of their End of Year Mentorship event that will take place on Saturday, October 26 at Kampala Quality in Kisasi.
Amplify Her is aimed at raising funds to help EduAid run its operations and facilitate mentorship programs. Branded merchandise such as T-shirts, bags, basketball vests, toilet bags, caps, and mugs are available to buy.
The End-of-Year Mentorship event will attract eight schools including Kibuli SS, Caltec Academy, Alliance High School, and Seeta High.
The day’s program includes a half-day workshop for the teachers conducted in partnership with the Uganda Olympic Committee as well as a session about cancer from the Uganda Child Cancer Foundation.
